Charming, beautiful and articulate Kris Reyes brings a wealth of experience to her role deliver- ing the news to Canadians. From astronauts, politicians, chefs and actors, Kris interviewed a wide variety of guests on Global TV’s The Morning Show. This past summer Kris has taken a step back to be with her son Jack in becoming the new anchor of Global News at 6 & 11 on weekends and will also be a regular contributor to the weekday newscasts, taking a deeper dive into cultural and social issues. Some of her favourite interviews include MP Justin Trudeau, astronaut Chris Hadfield, primatologist Jane Goodall, musician Anne Murray, and actor Laurence Fishburne. Reyes describes her philosophy: “I always know when I need a break to recharge. When it gets too much I take a few steps back.”
Reyes was born in the Philippines and describes herself as the “tomboy” amongst her brother and sister. At age nine, her family moved to Canada. She loved watching television, especially Barbara Walters’s interview specials. “I was thirteen when I decided to become a jour- nalist just like Walters.” Reyes began her career as a free- lance producer and writer at CTV News in Toronto, where she produced a September 11th broadcast special for the network. Eager to make the jump to on-air, Reyes moved to Winnipeg on the coldest day of 2003 to begin reporting and producing for CTV’s Winnipeg affiliate.

When not working, you can find Reyes enjoying the city’s amazing neighbourhoods from break- fast in Kensington Market to hiking at Evergreen Brickworks or Rouge Park to playing in the new Corktown Common, or shopping at one of the many farmer’s markets in the city. With an infant at home and so much on the go we wanted to get to know Kris a little better, this is what she told Elite Magazine.
TD: The best mom advice ever received? KR: Let yourself figure it out and do
it slowly.
TD: The worst mom advice ever received?
KR: Never let the baby get used to sleeping with you. Too late.
TD: Wish I knew this.... about parent- hood? What would that be?
KR: Not so much a “wish I knew” as there’s no understanding the tired- ness that falls over you on some days.
TD: Your favourite date night restau- rants in Toronto?
KR: La Carnita... anywhere in Leslieville and home sweet home.
TD: Favourite family attractions in the city? KR: Evergreen Brickworks, LeslievilleFarmer’s Market, and the Beach.TD: Your most memorable interview and why?KR: For some reason Jane Goodall is the one that always stands out for me. I think because she had such a peace- ful, no-nonsense presence about her. She also exuded youthfulness and wisdom at the same time.TD: Most challenging interview?KR: Honestly can’t think of one... maybe anything that involves people who’ve experienced a real tragedy.TD: The best thing about your job?: The interesting and inspiring people we meet everyday. The crew that I work with makes me laugh every single day!
TD: The most challenging thing about your job?
KR: The hours. Getting up everyday at 4 am never gets easy.
TD: What we don’t know about you (but really really really want people to know)?
KR: I’m fluent in Tagalog, I’m tone deaf but oh so desperate not to be, I once did spoken word in a NYC subway (collected all of $3 for my efforts) and Hawaii is my favourite place on earth.
